Sutton, W. Lloyd, businessman, is the president and CEO of 105 Recordings Limited in Atlanta, Georgia. Born in Elizabeth City, N.C., he graduated from Northeastern High School in 1997. While there, he became a North Carolina High School All-State wrestler, and still holds the most admirable win-lost record in school history, 93-6. In 1999, he began a short-lived college experience at Elizabeth City State University (in which he majored in Music Education) and then worked as a sales associate in the automobile industry. He along with his siblings wrote and co-produced their first gospel recording in 2000, which propelled the group to some regional success, numerous national television appearances, stoked a British Columbian tour and an independent film called “Jesus and The Faithway Doves”.

In 2003, with borrowed monies he started 105 Recordings Limited LLC, a music production company. Due to an opinionated legal battle, Sutton was incarcerated shortly after. However, his sheer will would rule against his criminal conviction.

In 2005, from a prison cell he penned four books, which includes his compelling life story ‘CONVICTED BUT NOT CONVINCED From Bars to Ballads.’ Later, Mr. Sutton decided to promote and distribute his recordings and books himself. Lloyd W. Sutton is a superb producer and a prolific songwriter. His songs ‘Mirror Image’ and ‘Sinless Sex’ opened the ears of the mass media, and his country tune ‘Red Mustang’ has struck a chord with commercial audiences across the nation.

105 Recordings Limited has signed a stable of little-known artists who all have strong work ethics and promising careers. Sutton has taken quite a bit of criticism for his approach to health giving with his outlandish commentary and wayward opinions but he proclaims its all for a good purpose. “The hospital doesn’t differentiate in helping people, so why should I? I want to be an assistance to all mankind, not just one special grouping,” he says with a peculiar smile. Mr. Sutton is in the early stages of independently filming the documentary movie, ‘From Bars to Ballads’, to visually display his incredible turnaround, further proving that a haunting past doesn’t always mean darkness, but a light forever visible even if you’re the only one who can see it. His new life mantra is BUILD THE DREAM AND LET IT BUILD YOU. Sutton’s vision of becoming a successful businessman is noteworthy and it’s helping to restore his once stained character and warped reputation in the process.

Through my voice and fingers I have spent my life telling stories.

Even as a child, I wanted to show the universe how I perceived it and I endeavored to find the clearest way to communicate that.

The medium has never mattered as much as the message, so I have no clever anecdote about how I fell in love with Photography. It has just always been there, waiting to take centre stage.

The world makes a certain kind of sense when viewed through my camera’s lens. My vision turns childlike, full of optimism and curiosity and I become a quiet observer, acutely aware of my surroundings…charmed by the smallest of details. Every moment becomes pregnant with possibility and each face promises to tell an interesting story.

I am drawn to the challenge of documenting these subtle intricacies by creating images that are familiar somehow, that echo common human sentiments and give voice to beauty that might otherwise be overlooked. In an increasingly complex world, it is everyday simplicity that draws my attention.

So…with camera in hand, I become a collector…chasing moments and sentiments and bottling them up for safekeeping. Each image becomes an heirloom…carrying time and inspiring reminiscence…jarring one’s memory….

Travis, the past frontman of The Stars of Track & Field (the Canadian version, before that band from Oregon took the name), has been playing across the North for the past ten years. Many festivals, many bar gigs. And of course the bonfire sessions. With three studio albums under his belt, this collaboration with Wayne, Jeff and Patrick is the best work to date – lyrics true to his heart, and melodies that find themselves in a happy frame of mind. Produced in collaboration with the talented Jim Holland of Seaweed Studios (who did the recording and mixing as well), and mastered by Chris Potter (Nickelback, Sarah Mclaughlin, among others), this album took almost a year to put together. Hopefully, you will find it worth the wait.

For the music industry, GRAMMY nominee Tamar Davis is like an ice cold drink on a steaming hot day: deeply refreshing. In a world of Internet-created and marketing team-fabricated “entertainers,” Tamar (pronounced “Tay-mar”) emerges as a real singer with genuine talent and authentic appeal. Her entry into the music scene signifies a marked departure from a culture of cookie-cutter pop stars and evokes a time when singers with unadulterated talent sang from the soul.

This gifted singer-songwriter-performer has pipes powerful enough to light up an arena–or better yet, fill three stadiums, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Tamar’s beguiling voice, mesmerizing moves and enticing stage prowess give you something you can sho’ nuff feel. Keyboardist Morris Hayes puts it this way: “This girl can blow anyone off the stage vocally. There are no tricks or smoke and lights. She can turn it on and let it go.”

Tamar is indeed extraordinary. She’s one of the first unsigned R&B artists to be nominated for a GRAMMY. She was handpicked to record and tour with a musical legend. And even before releasing an album, the soulful songstress has established herself as a musical force that has made the world stop and take notice.

The songbird discovered her gift at age three. By nine, the Houston native was a lead vocalist in a group of six singing, dancing, rapping preteens called Girls Tyme. After losing on Star Search, the budding stars continued on separate paths. Tamar opted to pursue a solo career. (Three of her former Girl friends–Beyonce’ Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Latavia Robertson—would eventually form powerhouse Destiny’s Child.)

A few years later, Tamar’s demo caught the attention of music royalty: Prince. Tamar was invited to his Paisley Park studio and offered a production contract. Though she didn’t get to meet his royal badness and a deal wasn’t sealed, a seed was planted.

Tamar cultivated her talent at Houston’s Fame equivalent—The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts—and was among 20 honorees selected from a field of 8000 applicants for the Presidential Scholar for the Arts award. Intent on furthering her career and her education, Tamar headed to Los Angeles to study music at the University of Southern California. She graduated not only with classical training and a Bachelor of Music degree, but also with the ability to write and arrange music and sing in French, Italian, German, Swahili and Italian.

Tamar returned to the Star Search stage in 2004 for the “Battle of Champions.” Despite praise from judges like Naomi Judd—“ You have an amazing voice”–and show host Arsenio Hall—“It’s so unique. It has a Stephanie Mills/Whitney Houston vibe…”— she didn’t prevail in the competition. She also auditioned for the fourth season of American Idol; but didn’t make it in front of the three charismatic judges. A producer’s critique: Tamar was too polished. That polish served her well as she landed a gig as the lead vocalist of a grown-up girl group: a jazz/funk band called Angaza.

In early 2005, at the behest and invitation of famed choreographer Fatima Robinson, Tamar attended an awards show after party hosted by Prince. Seizing the opportunity, she reintroduced herself and a million dollar question followed. “Can you sing for me?” Prince asked. The answer was clear: Tamar blew him away and the seed began to grow.

Tamar became a vocalist in Prince’s band, performing at his renowned house parties, and even joining him on stage for a solo at the NAACP Image Awards. While contributing background vocals on Prince’s 3121 album, she also began recording her own. By the end of the year, the student and teacher were both signed to Universal Records. Now, Prince was ready to introduce his “favorite singer” to the world.

In 2006, the dynamic duo set off on a cross-country, 10-city tour. At the electrifying, sold-out shows reminiscent of old soul revues, the leading lady’s performances were the talk of the town. Commanding the stage, Tamar won over legions of Prince fans and gave music critics something to talk about.

In Philadelphia, Paul Altobelli wrote that Tamar “had the body and moves of Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin’s voice” and the City Paper lauded her “powerful voice and saucy showmanship.” The Washington Post reported that Tamar “impressed with choreographed calisthenics and luscious vocals.” Chicago’s Unrated Magazine said with “her soulful voice, sultry demeanor and magnetic stage presence…Tamar has all the makings to be a star.” The Pioneer Press in Minnesota marveled at her “magnificent and powerful voice.”

A veritable knock-out with voluminous hair, desirable curves and feisty moves, Tamar was by Prince’s side on “Saturday Night Live,” “Good Morning America,” and both the 2006 BET and Brit Awards. And yes, that’s Tamar working it in his Fury video.

With the introduction made, new fans yearned for more. Yet, the world wouldn’t get to know Tamar as quickly as planned; Universal decided not to release her album. But you can’t keep good music down. One of the many songs Tamar and Prince wrote and recorded together, the forcefully inspirational Beautiful, Loved and Blessed, was recently nominated for a GRAMMY.

Remarkably, she is now one of the first unsigned R&B artists to have been nominated for music’s highest honor and was just named Houston’s Rising Star 2007 (Ensemble Theatre). Set to make her mark, Tamar is focused her forthcoming debut solo album, aptly titled “To Be Continued…”

“Working on “To Be Continued…” was an adventure. I got a chance to write with Andrew Green, a profilic writer who 2 years prior wrote my single “X-Friend.” There were countless times when some sessions weren’t about recordings. We just sat and talked about what makes me happy to what makes me smile. Andrew would simply create around who I am and what makes me, Tamar. This is the first time the world will get a chance to hear a new sound and a new Tamar. What better way than to title it “TO BE CONTINUED….?”

Her creative partner helped Tamar handpick her newest songs, choosing music from Grammy-winning producers Jab and E. Poppy (Beyonce) and Grammy-nominated producers Sauce & Ro (Brandy). Their project showcases Tamar’s musical versatility and finesse at her arrangements of urban, r & b, and soul.

“I can’t write or sing anything without understanding the reason behind it,” says Tamar. “I want to tell a story through song in a way that the listener vicariously experiences what I’m feeling.”

Atmospheric love ballad “Once in Awhile” subtly plays up the soul and jazz nuances that color her “feel-this vocals”. “Runaway” reveals her penchant for arranging a ballad, “Eyes, Hips, Moves” delivers her understanding of how much fun a girl can have when she brings her man to the dance floor, while “Don’t Push Me”…

“Don’t Push Me” is a song that everyone can relate too. It depicts the sassy
side of a girl who says that there is a point in time where you can make a girl mad. But there are certain lines you cannot cross. And one of them is that once a person has been delivered from something in there past don’t keep bringing it up. Just leave it alone.

A child of the hip-hop generation, Tamar grew up under the influence of funky fresh beats and lyrical magic. But her distinctive sound is the result of a steady diet of artists as varied as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaugh, Sting, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Yolanda Adams, Barbara Streisand, Janet Jackson, Prince, Chaka Khan and AC/DC. Tamar’s funk, soul, gospel, jazz, pop and rock fusion classifies her as an innovative musician ready to take the music industry by force.

“Words can never describe the times of being in the studio or being on stage or headlining a Prince tour. He’s a genius. He’s a businessman. He’s innovative and he’s skilled. I can humbly say I’ve had the honor to be blessed with learning how to be an overall entertainer. Stepping out on my own was hard in the beginning because I started using the training wheels as a clutch. But when you are called to an industry that speaks to the heart of man, you have to continue to search for the high call. You can’t always hear when you’re leaning on man’s faith or desires. Prince told me I can be a pioneer in this business now I’ve got to fly and be that and more. The setbacks, trials, and tears have made me understand that your current circumstance does not depict where you’re going. Its through your faith and perseverance in God that takes you to where you need to be.”

As life goes, every student must one day leave the classroom, every child must leave home and every (song) bird must leave the nest and prepare to fly. As Tamar readies for flight, she knows a higher power will be the wind beneath her spread wings; this truth is captured in a line from Beautiful, Loved and Blessed, “Tamar, I will lead the way and you’ll go far.”

Armed with this faith, a lifetime of preparation and undeniable talent, Tamar Davis is ready to soar.

Images in Vogue was a Canadian New Wave group in the 1980s.

The band was formed in 1981 in Vancouver, and originally consisted of vocalist Dale Martindale, guitarist Don Gordon, synth players Joe Vizvary and Glen Nelson, bassist Gary Smith and percussionist Kevin Crompton. (The band’s manager was Kim Clarke Champniss, later to become a MuchMusic VJ.)

The band released four EPs before their full-length debut, 1985′s In the House. Their first notable chart hit was “Lust for Love”, from the 1983 self-titled EP. Gordon left the band in 1984, and was replaced by Ed Shaw.

They also scored a Top 40 hit in 1985 with “Call it Love”, which won a Juno Award for Single of the Year. The band was also named Group of the Year at that year’s CASBY Awards.

Crompton left Images in Vogue in 1986, indicating that the band was too commercial for his tastes, and concentrated on his side project Skinny Puppy. Crompton was replaced by Derrick Gyles. Nelson also left the same year, and was replaced by Tim Welch.

The band considered changing its name to The Spell while recording its 1988 album, but discovered that an Australian band was already using that name. The album ended up titled as The Spell, but the band remained Images in Vogue. That album was not commercially successful, however. By June 1988, Images in Vogue could no longer count on the support of its record label and this, combined with the band’s internal conflicts, influenced Gary Smith to leave the band. Images in Vogue’s final concert featuring original content was at Toronto’s “Opera House” in November, 1991 after which the band unofficially split as members pursued different ventures. Since then, the band has continued to release various compilation CDs featuring remixes and live, rare and unreleased songs; additionally, rare, commercially unreleased tracks are made available for download by the band at its official website. Images in Vogue did reunite for gigs at Toronto’s “Opera House” in 2002 and at Vancouver’s “Commodore” in 2004. No full-time reformation of the band is expected as of this time.

Acoustic soul-pop blends beautifully with the aftermath of love on the Danish singer/ song writers heart-wrenching second album, which is colored by the last few turbulent years where sorrow and pain unfolded in the midst of massive musical success.

When Thomas Barsoe in winter 2005 released his debut album ‘Better Man’, an adventure second to none began. The Danish soul singer made it big time, especially in Asia and as the first Danish artist ever, managed to conquer the top spot in the music chart in Japan, the worlds second largest market.

For Thomas it’s been a time of experiencing, growing, learning, reflecting…but most of all appreciating the incredible journey he has been on, which has brought along heaps of new creative energy and the songs on Read Between The Lines reveals a more mature and vulnerable artist who, with huge talent, bravery and poetic flair, spills his heart out in his music and words and reaches a whole new depth and credibility as an artist.

Where the words on Read Between The Lines circles around the mystery and darkness of love, the arrangements are far more simple and acoustic than on the debut album and is all recorded with a live band. Nothing is hidden behind big productions and expensive recording studios. Partly because of Thomas’s philosophy of – ”if a song does not work on my piano or guitar alone, it’s quite simply not good enough”.

And the fact that the organic and soulful album came to life in the small hours at his loft apartment in Copenhagen really shows. There is an intimacy and ‘journal’ like nerve throughout Read Between The Lines…”It has been an incredible place for me to make my album. It’s so important that the vibe is right in order for me to perform my best during recordings, and that is not always the case in a fancy studio at 10 in the morning. Here at home I have had the opportunity to sit with a cup of tea in the middle of the night and sing and play. I have really dug deep emotionally this time. This album is extremely personal and 100 percent me and hopefully people will be able to tell’ Thomas explains and is not intimidated by the huge expectations worldwide to the songs following up the massive success of his debut.

On Read Between The Lines, Thomas’s beautiful and soulful vocal, melancholic melodies and heartfelt words all come together perfectly in a stunning album which is sad yet uplifting and certain to set peoples hearts and souls alight…

Philip Grant, Todd Jang and Frederik Robert have been identified as “three talented, young, classically trained vocalists who have separately been delighting audiences across North America and Europe.” Now together as ROMANZA, they have been winning people’s hearts everywhere they perform. In fact, their official launch concert in Victoria sold out to a packed house of 1500.

Robert Campbell, Theatre Director of Maple Ridge Arts Centre wrote about them “Their performance here at the ACT was the best attendance we have had for a classical performance”. They have also been profiled on CBC Radio2, The New VI, CKBD 600, A Channel and CFAX and have quickly earned a reputation as fun loving, approachable and talented artists. In an interview on CKBD 600 Rafe Mair said “their passionate and sensationally enchanting sound combined with their accessible style has been exciting music lovers of all levels. Keep your ears open for ROMANZA- you won’t want to miss them. They are undeniable, joining in harmonies that swell and subside masterfully, charming you along the way with their obvious love of singing.”

The three friends infuse their performances with their offstage camaraderie, warming the audience with their intimacy and humour. ROMANZA have taken the classical repertoire to new heights by re-invigorating opera hits, Italian favourites and well loved ballads with their own irresistible and original arrangements for the contemporary audience. ROMANZA is the real deal. Authentic. Talented. Genuine.
