We received our new business cards today! This marks the second generation of SS Media Co cards that we’re printed by ClubCard in Vancouver. Once again ClubCard delivered an amazing product and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. The cards we’re printed using their Tree-Free printing method, which of course isn’t exactly correct, they are printed on paper that’s made from post consumer waste. Tree-Free just sounds better and it feels good that no new trees had to perish in the creating of these new cards.

Here’s what ClubCard says about the process.

Tree-Free Printing – 100% Green
Can printing be organic? We think so and share your commitment to eco-friendly ethically-produced, 100% post consumer waste content products. Your full colour job will be printed with soy inks utilizing stochastic screen (random dot pattern) technology (380 line screen equivalent) on a press that operates on its own reverse osmosis water plant. Used press rags are burned as fuel with no volatile organic compounds released and the remaining ash is then used in cement products. For a more economical option we suggest our premium offset option.

In addition to the amazing print job ClubCard also added our cards to the sample table, which we can’t thank them enough for. If that wasn’t enough we just received this amazing email from Matt Dobo.

SSMEDIACO website rocks.

I really enjoy a great many aspects of your website aesthetic! It makes me happy to see such innovation.

I work at Clubcard Printing in Vancouver. I saw your cards arrive printed, and I think they look amazing. This led me to reconnoiter around your website, and it was nice to see the unity going on there.

As a web enthusiast, and a CSS fan, l bow to you!!!

Regards,
Matt Dobo

That means a lot of servers, and a lot of carbon emissions. So we asked ourselves, What can we do to be part of the climate change solution? We took steps to minimize our environmental impact at the office, but still we weren’t satisfied. We then switched to 36% more efficient servers, but still we weren’t satisfied!

All of their shared and reseller servers are now 130% wind powered!

That’s right! 130%!

We’re not just neutralizing our environmental impact, we’re reversing it! HostGator has purchased certified Renewable Energy Credits representing 130% of the electricity used to both power and cool every last one of our shared and reseller servers!

Just how big a dent in climate change does that make?
It’s the equivalent of:

1. Removing 444 cars from the road for a year, or

2. Powering 321 homes with clean energy for a year, or

3. Saving 5,654 barrels of oil, or

4. Protecting 551 acres of forest for a year

Click on the banner to sign up and use coupon code “GATORGREEN” to save $9.94 off any hosting package, which makes your first month only $0.01!

SS Media Co loves Host Gator’s 24/7 phone support and now their’s another reason to love them a little more.

Year two of The PEAK Performance Project will see an increase of overall funding to BC artists from $275,000 to $315,000 in development cash awards and will see all Top 20 artists receive artist development funding.

The Top 20 will perform in the PEAK Performance Concert Series this Fall. The final three artists will be announced on Monday, November 1 followed by the final showcase and the crowing of the ultimate PEAK performer in late November at the Commodore Ballroom. The 1st place artist will receive $100,500, 2nd is $75,000, 3rd is $50,000, 4th is $10,000, 5th is $5,000 and all 20 finalists will receive $3,500 each in initial artists development funding. In addition to this, all of this year’s 20 finalists will receive a showcase spot at The Kelowna 2010 BreakOut West Festival presented by the Western Canadian Music Alliance October 21 – 24.

Last year the PEAK Performance Project awarded We Are The City with a grand prize of $150,000. The Left and Bend Sinister received second and third place, respectively.

The $5.29 million PEAK Performance Project is designed to educate, promote, develop and hopefully launch the careers of some of British Columbia’s top emerging artists. It also hopes to foster the province’s music industry and create a sense of community amongst music professionals. In addition to the rigorous six month artist development program and the $315,000 in artist development funding, The Pattison Group of Companies will also contribute an annual media credit of $1,000,000 in support of the PEAK Performance Project by marketing, promoting and advertising the PEAK Performance Project and the participating artists making it the largest individual radio station project in Canada.

The PEAK Performance Project is an initiative of 100.5 The PEAK and Music BC. Details on the selection process as well as more information on each component of the project can be found at www.peakperformanceproject.com

We Are The City is a three piece progressive indie rock act from the Okanagan lakeside city of Kelowna, British Columbia. Originally forming under the name “Seraph” in the Spring of 2006, they changed their name to “The City” in January of 2007, and finally settling upon We Are The City in May of 2008. We Are The City features three young composers: Cayne McKenzie on vocals and keys, David Menzel on guitar, and Andy Huculiak on the drums. Cayne’s symphonic piano arrangements flow into David’s guttural guitars and the grand heartbeat of Andy’s drums, as the vocals slink from soft harmonies into gruff howls. Their songs paint out a sincere and beautiful interpretation of life; exploring evocative sounds and storytelling.

They draw inspiration from Muse, Coldplay, Mew, and Radiohead. They have already shared the stage with Yukon Blonde, Secret & Whisper, Bend Sinister, Winter Gloves, The Zolas, Said The Whale, and Mother Mother. We Are The City is currently a Top 20 finalist as part of 100.5 The Peak FM’s BC competition, the Peak Performance Project.

Listening to their instrumentation and orchestral arrangements you will readily discover their potential for greatness is simply palpable. Cayne has been classically trained in piano for eight years and playing for twelve. David and Andy are both self-taught musicians.

In person, and during their witty banter in between songs on stage, you will find these three young men endearing, awkwardly funny, and incredibly sweet. They are brothers drawn together to explore their own musical renaissance. Having just reached the winter of their teens, their innocence and sincerity will pull fans in to find their own fists clenching at nostalgic summer days with bruised teenaged knuckles. These three young men may be comical, humble, and sweetly adorable, but their music is not to be taken lightly. With their booming stadium-ready sounds and stirring melodies, they are set to continue to steadily gain fans of all ages around the globe.

We Are the City will convince you with their good hearts and inspiring sounds to come and be a part of their city.
